Chris's Worldskills journey - part 1 - The beginning

This week Chris is at his first Worldskills UK training event which is being hosted by Cardigan college, he was invited to this because of his success over the last two years in the national finals at the Skillshow hosted in the NEC Birmingham. As was the case when I had my first worldskills training event it is what we call a de-selection event. Currently there are four other young joiners trying to impress the UK training manager Andy Pengelly. At the end of this week Andy will be making some tough choices in order to cut the pack down from five to two or three. However, agonisingly for the competitors they won't find out if they've made the cut until a couple of weeks after the event.

Previous to this myself and Chris have been putting aside some time to train specifically for this event and from what he has shown me over these sessions he definitely has what it takes to progress further into Worldskills squad UK. It's now just a case of him getting his head down this week and showing Andy what he can do and hopefully he will make it into the final three where the journey really begins.
